introduction
I’m UiYoung Song, an Industrial Design student at the University of Cincinnati, driven by geometry and clarity.
I seek harmony between structure and emotion — finding elegance in precision and simplicity. My design philosophy explores how refined forms can express both function and calm.

Geometry is the foundation of proportion and structure — the visual language that defines order and rhythm. It clarifies relationships between space and form, revealing harmony through balance. For me, geometry is not just a tool of measurement, but a way of organizing thought and emotion into structure.

Every design begins with a line. A straight line represents structure and discipline, while a curved line embodies softness and emotion. Together, they form a dialogue between precision and sensitivity. A line is not merely a boundary — it divides, connects, and creates rhythm in space. Within the flow of lines, I explore the essence of form and emotional expression.

Simplicity is not about less; it is about essence. By removing what is unnecessary, the intent and function of form become clearer. Simplicity creates quiet expression — a space where clarity and emotion coexist. Through simplicity, I aim to design experiences that feel intentional, calm, and enduring.

Refined design is found in subtle details — proportion, curvature, and texture that shape perception. Every adjustment reflects care and precision, creating understated sophistication. To me, refinement is not the final step but an ongoing process of balance, patience, and consideration.

Balance exists where structure meets emotion, and logic meets intuition. It provides both stability and vitality. I seek designs that embody this equilibrium — rational yet warm, deliberate yet human. Balance is, to me, the true essence of harmonious design.
Design Approach
Location: MoMA, New York City
My design process begins with a line, a foundation of observation, proportion, and intention.
I explore how structure can coexist with emotion, and how clarity can bring calmness into form.
Each project starts with understanding: observing how people interact, how materials respond, and how geometry defines function.
From sketching and modeling to prototyping, every stage is an exercise in refining proportion and precision.
I approach design as a dialogue between logic and emotion, where simplicity becomes an expression of quiet confidence.
Rather than seeking complexity, I aim to reveal the essence of form, creating designs that are thoughtful, balanced, and enduring.
Ultimately, my approach is about finding harmony between structure and feeling, crafting objects that communicate both human warmth and geometric discipline.
